The National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) guidelines require that health care professionals administering medical examinations to commercial motor vehicle operators in interstate commerce be certified and listed on FMCSA’s National Registry.The New Jersey Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons offers Medical Examiner training designed to meet the core curriculum requirements set by the FMCSA and to prepare those who have completed the training to sit for the certification exam. In addition to the one-day live program, accredited online preparatory readings will complete the required curriculum.

Course Objective: To prepare participants for the FMCSA examination and to provide a full understanding of the medical standards in the FMCSA Regulations, related guidance and how they relate to the medical demands of operating a commercial motor vehicle. 
 

Target Audience: Any health care professional (physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant) authorized to perform physical examinations and issue medical certificates for CMV drivers to meet the requirements of Section 391.41 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations must be certified.

Pricing: $300 for NJAOPS and MSNJ Members and $350 for Nonmembers 

 

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of the course, physician participants will be able to:

  • Explain the mission of the FMCSA and its regulations 
  • Define the appropriate role of the medical examiner 
  • Provide an overview of the cognitive, physical and psychological demands placed on the commercial motor vehicle driver 
  • State the fundamental requirements of the medical exam relative to FMCSA regulations 
  • Enumerate the qualification standards for commercial motor vehicle drivers 
  • Know how to properly complete the form 

AOA Credit Designation Statement:

This program has been approved for up to 7.0 AOA Category 1-A CME credits. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 
 

AMA Credit Designation Statement: NJAOPS designates this live activity for a maximum of 7.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 
 

Accreditation Statement: The New Jersey Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (NJAOPS) is accredited by the Medical Society of New Jersey provide continuing medical education for physicians.

*Please note, FMCSA regulations require certified medical examiners to retake the training every 5 years. If you were trained in 2013, you will need to retake the training in 2018.
