The
2006 Atlantic Regional Osteopathic Convention (AROC) returned to the magnificent
Trump
Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New Jersey, with a flourish April 4–8. D.O.s,
M.D.s, physician assistants and advance practice nurses from across the state
and around the country gathered for personal and professional enrichment,
continuing medical education, a sold-out exhibit hall experience, and quality
time with old friends and new. CME session blocks included Obesity, Prevention
& Early Detection of Chronic Diseases, and Women's Health. AROC 2006 also
offered Florida relicensure sessions, osteopathic manipulative medicine sessions,
Electronic Health Records discussion panels, a medical malpractice roundtable,
a complete student program, a career fair for young physicians, and a compelling
keynote address by former New Jersey First Lady and mental health advocate
Mary Jo Codey.
Particularly well attended was the Saturday lecture series entitled "The Business of Medicine" featuring the latest in business and technology for physicians' practices. Sessions of interest included Risk Management, Estate Planning and Asset Protection, Prevention of Medical Errors, Billing and Coding, Electronic Health Records, Medicare Part D and Pay-for-Performance.
NJAOPS' 105th Anniversary Reception & Banquet was held Friday, April 7 in the beautiful Tiara Ballroom onsite. In addition to dinner, dancing, and live entertainment, the evening included an inaugural address by newly elected NJAOPS President Ira Monka, D.O. NJAOPS also honored Thomas Cavalieri, D.O., as its 2006 Physician of the Year, recognizing him as a gifted physician and an advocate for geriatric medicine and "successful aging."
The dynamic AROC exhibit hall was located in the Taj Mahal's spacious Grand Ballroom and featured 107 exhibiting organizations and a special guest appearance by Frank Vincent (Phil Leotardo of the Emmy-award winning HBO series "The Sopranos.") Speaking of 2007...planning is already underway for another dynamic AROC program. In 2007 we move to the Tropicana Atlantic City. Mark your calendars now for April 24–28.
